Bangkok “Staycations” with Kids

User Rating: 4.8 (7 votes)

Sometimes the best thing to do is to get away from it all… without actually getting away from it all. Life in the big city can get pretty stressful, especially when you’re juggling parenting duties in between slogging through Sukhumvit traffic and wedging yourself into the BTS Skytrain. With all the boring, ordinary tasks we have to take care of every day, it’s sometimes easy to feel overwhelmed and forget to truly appreciate time with your family.

But you don’t have to leave Bangkok itself in order to find some relief. The term “staycation” may incur some eyeball-rolling, but there is something slightly magical about swooping up the kids and leaving all the dirty dishes and laundry behind. And since you’re saving money on airfare, you can splurge a bit on the room for a night or two.

So next time you need to get away from the grind, consider checking out and checking in to one of these family-friendly hotels away from home.

The Peninsula Bangkok

The Peninsula Bangkok

Why you’ll love it: One of Bangkok’s grande dames, this super-swanky spot oozes Old World charm from the dark wood interiors and understatedly elegant furnishings. There’s plenty for mom and dad to indulge in here, from their luxurious spa treatments to their high tea with some of the best desserts in town. Best of all, all of the rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the Chao Phraya River.

Why your kids will love it: This hotel may feel decidedly adult, but they haven’t forgotten to pamper their younger guests. The recently launched Peninsula Academy program contains a host of fun cultural activities suitable for all ages. Your kids can don miniature aprons in a cooking class or watch a Thai puppet show.

Why you’ll love it: Going to the other side of the river has a magical, transportive effect. This place caters to those who want to really get away. The rooms and amenities are all urban contemporary, but the overall resort has a fun, laid-back feel.

Why your kids will love it: The Chang Noi Kids’ Club has plenty of activities for your youngest family members, from sports to Thai dance and bracelet making. Picky eaters will also love the fact that the resort sports 10 restaurants, including Numero Uno, with over 100 types of sweets, and the popular, highly theatrical Benihana.

Grand Millennium Sukhumvit Bangkok

Grand Millenium Sukhumvit Bangkok

Why you’ll love it: In terms of accessibility, you just can’t beat this location. And while Asoke may be an awfully busy place, the inside of the hotel feels calm and collected.

Why your kids will love it: Two words: chocolate fountain. The brunch here is one of the best deals in town. When you go as a family of four, you only pay for two. That means that two kids can gobble down cookies, cakes and candy-crusted confections while mom and dad sip Prosecco and nosh on oysters and the in-house smoked salmon.
