An annual check-up is not only important for adults. It is advised that parents have their children checked-up because this age plays a very important role in shaping their development both physically and mentally as they prepare for adulthood.

Annual Check-up

Common problems preventable by check-up

Abnormal growth – Commonly found abnormalities in children include obesity or undersized bodies, mainly as a result of malnutrition. Having a pediatrician performs a general check-up and tests of the fat and sugar levels in the blood allows for an evaluation of any abnormalities and the chance to share proper parenting guidelines in accordance with the age of the children.

Anemia – Anemia causes children to get emotional very easily, lose their appetite, and suffer from headaches, dizziness, strange behavior and abnormal development. A blood test is the primary form of diagnosis that can ensure the most appropriate treatment is delivered in a timely manner.

Vision problems – Children may not be aware that they have an eyesight problem or they may not be able to recognize the symptoms. This can lead to poor performance at school. Therefore, eye tests are very important.

Emotional and behavioral problems – Children at the age of 6 – 12 are trying to learn and understand what is happening around them. Commonly found problems for this age group are emotional imbalance, attention deficit disorder, bullying and social impairment. Parents are advised to observe their children’s behavior and have them tested to ensure proper learning development.

Expert Medical Tip

It is recommended that children have a check-up at least once a year because finding out that their children are suffering from any abnormalities at an early stage will help the parents understand and be prepared to provide proper care in a timely manner so that their children will enjoy sound physical and mental development that is appropriate for their age.
