Ask the doctor about lifestyle during pregnancy

I am six months pregnant and I wanted to go to Samet next weekend- can I still ride on the speedboat there? Or should I take the slow ferry?

A speedboat ride is not recommended for pregnant women. Although the ride to Koh Samet is quite short, it still might be bumpy. And depending on the speed your boat will be going, it might hit some waves very harshly. Go with the safe option and take the ferry. Better safe than sorry.

Hi, can I do hot bikram yoga while I’m pregnant? If yes, when during my pregnancy should I stop? Thank you.

I strongly disagree. Pregnant women should not do hot Bikram yoga because it raises their body temperature. Some women may be at risk from the extreme temperature.

The American Pregnancy Association cautions against exposing yourself to excessive heat while being pregnant. Raising temperature above 101 degrees F could affect the development of your baby.

I’m pregnant and I have a cold – runny nose, coughing, sneezing, etc. What kind of medications are safe for me to take? Should I take additional vitamin C or can that harm the baby? Thank you.

There are several factors to take into consideration when taking medication during pregnancy. During 0-12 weeks, if you experience normal fever and cold, the doctors will not recommend any medication. Instead, you will be advised to take rest and drink lots of water. If you have a runny nose or a stuffy nose, you can clean out your nose with salt water. If you are experiencing severe conditions, you should consult with your doctor for a suitable treatment. For those who are after the 12th week of pregnancy, you may take medicines that are considered safe such as paracetamol. Pregnant women must not take anti-inflammatory medicines such as NSAID or ibuprofen. Vitamin C is safe and has no side effects on the baby.

Get well soon.

Can I use hair dye while I’m pregnant?

I do not recommend colouring your hair during pregnancy. This is because the scalp is directly exposed to chemicals which may be absorbed by the body. If you are just doing highlights on your hair, it is okay as there is no direct contact with any part of the body.
